It’s your choice…

I was talking to a dear friend of mine the other day when the Holy Spirit hit me with a zinger… You know the ones I’m talking about. You’re having a conversation and wisdom that isn’t yours comes out of your mouth, and it speaks to you both. That’s the one! Here it is … ready? …  “You can choose to be led by your feelings or your morals, but you have to choose because they’re rarely on the same side.” For those of us who have the Holy Spirit living in us, our morals are directly attached to God and his living word. His LIVING word. We live in a culture today where past innocent sayings are dripping with toxic advise. For instance  “Do whatever feels right” … I imagine at one time or another that meant something more like “after prayer and petition make the decision that you feel like you’re being led to”… but in today’s world it is so misdirected to be led by your emotions and your feelings? Do you agree with me?

Divorces are high, friendships end over small disagreements such as lunch, families are split up for years over a dinner conversation. Please don’t misunderstand me. There is a difference in creating distance for your protection and mental health vs dropping a friend or family member on a dime over one thing. The likely-hood that someone’s feelings of betrayal and stubbornness halt the necessary conversation to heal and grow and move forward are the direct result of a feeling attached to the disagreement. Don’t let this be you.

I have been blessed and grew up surrounded by The Word and have known that this is a battle. I have known the information all along … but knowing the information and living the example are two completely different narratives. One you apply the information to your lifestyle …. The other you know the information but allow your lifestyle to be led otherwise. Either way … You are free to choose and you’re the only one who can. It’s your choice…
